Rediscovering VHS tapes
Jun 1st, 2008 by dino-ray
When I went back to Texas last week, I discovered some treasures that I had in storage at my parents’ house located in the cosmopolitan city of Tyler, TX. Those treasures were VHS video cassettes which included everything from West Side Story, Sound of Music and some Korean dance video that, for some odd reason, got thrown into my collection.
Right now, I am watching my copy of “Can’t Hardly Wait”. I remember this movie very well. Of all those coming-of-age teen/co-ed movies that came out during 1998, it was one of my favorites. Nay - I think it was my favorite.
The movie is FULL of stars who were up-and-coming back in the day: Donald Faison Freddy Rodríguez, Jaime Pressly, Clea DuVall, Selma Blair, Breckin Meyer, Ethan Embry, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sean Patrick Thomas, Lauren Ambrose, Peter Facinelli and others. Some of them had small parts while others had bit parts. Some of them went on to do some successful projects (Ambrose in “Six Feet Under,” Rodriguez in “Ugly Betty,” Pressly in “My Name is Earl”) others have stayed out of the limelight and went on to do things like commercials for bras made by Hanes (please step forward Jennifer Love Hewitt.)
Remember when Miss Hewitt was the it girl? Those were the days. Too bad she didn’t make a sex tape or go into rehab or show her cooter while coming out of a car to maintain her top notch fame.
This movie brings me back to simpler times. I can’t even believe I still hold on to my VHS player. I guess you never know when you might need something low-tech for a dire emergency.
