07.08.08: What have I been reading? watching?

I have been reading…

Actually, I just finished it tonight whilst riding on BART with a scary hippie-type sitting right across from me. I thought it was only fair to read Nic Sheff’s book after reading his dad’s perspective of the story about a meth addict. It’s raw. It’s unflinching. It’s honest. It’s heart wrenching. And at times, it’s cringing.
I have been watching…

After walking out of the theater, I felt like a big bad ass. This movie made me want to join this elite fraternity of assassins. And it also made me want to learn to curve a bullet. No matter how many times they did that trick in the movie - I never got tired of it. Oh yeah, Angelina plays the Queen Bad ass in this picture…no surprise there. As for James McAvoy - top notch. Let’s just hope he doesn’t fall under that Euro “it” boy curse a la Jude Law and Orlando Bloom. P.S. Even though the story focuses on McAvoy’s character, don’t you just love it how they play up Angelina in the one sheet?

Who knew that a story about a robot in post apocalyptic-esque Earth can be so touching - and, honestly, kind of profound. And I’ll spare you the Johnny Five comparisons - Wall E is SO much cooler and more likable.

Now this movie was interesting - a rebellious b-boy in Tunisia turns into a terrorist. I was intrigued by the general premise. Then there’s the whole curve ball of showing you “behind the scenes” arguments between the star and director right in the middle of the movie. I’m serious - the movie just stops and is interrupted by an exchange between the two of them and then it just picks up. I was in awe and disturbed by this one.

I just got back from watching a screening of this documentary. It just showed that no matter how much time has changed, life in high school all boils down to familiar angst that everyone has dealt with. My inner high schooler was awakened as I related to a certain aspect of each kid - I rebelled, I was the creative outsider, I dipped my feet into the popular crowd, I was constantly pressured by my parents and I was a band geek - for the latter, I am the proudest.
