Beverly Hills, 90210 Analysis: Part 1

Many of you may already know that I have this current obsession with 90210. Maybe it’s because the spin-off is coming out soon. I know for damn sure that it won’t live up to the original, so for the next couple of weeks (or until I finish the first season), I’m going to do an in-depth study on the show: the fashion, the mannerisms, the slang, etc.
I didn’t get the urge to do this until I watched episode 8 of the series titled, “The Gentle Art of Listening.” This is how IMDb sums it up:
Brenda finds herself in a crisis when she gets to know an unseen student date-rape victim from Andrea’s volunteer help line. Meanwhile, Brandon gets tempted by an older woman, named Nina, who specializes in health massage solutions.
Groundbreaking right?
Well right off the bat, I, of course, noticed the fashion. Everything seems so disproportionate. The girls wear baggy tops tucked into tight jeans and the guys like to button their shirts to the top and fold their sleeves on short-sleeved T-shirts and tuck them into their straight-leg pants. Here is a prime example of the short-sleeve roll up provided by Brandon and Dylan:

And let’s not forget the background actor in the back who makes an appearance in some tight pink leggings…

That is beyond hot.
The roll-up isn’t that bad, but all this other stuff - why the hell did we think these fashion statements were cool?

Check out Kelly’s hat - it’s so marching band chic. And then there’s that Mr. T gold belt that Donna is wearing: that is some couture shit right there. And that midriff? Words cannot explain how worthy this is of a Color Me Badd video.

This was one of those episodes where they tried something new on Brandon to make him more hip and less straight laced. With his ’90s Balthazar Getty hat, the costumers probably wanted to give him boyish appeal and sexy authority. Mission accomplished! Steve is probably the most experimental of the group - is that a mock-neck T-shirt? What the hell is it? But the cardigan is working. Those are really hot right now proving that Steve Sanders was WAY ahead of his time. And are those glasses vintage Revo? As for Dylan, he just always looks cool. But back to Steve - he must’ve got those sunglasses at the same place that this couple (in the next picture, far right) shops:

Wow. That acid wash skirt is just mind bogglingly sexy.
