So I just bought my plane ticket and registered for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. And I don’t even know if I could afford all of it!
Well, lucky for me, I will not only be covering fashion week, but I will also be staying at the Hotel Le Bleu in Brooklyn and doing a travel story for my old employer.
Wow. I’ve never done a travel story before.
Anyways, I am kind of excited to go to NY again for the fourth time in the past two years. My friend Erline says I should call myself bi-coastal – but that sounds weird. Like one part of my body stays in NY while another part of me is in the Yay Area.
Also – Fashion Week isn’t as glamorous as everyone thinks it is. Sure, there are a bunch of celeb sightings and swag, but there’s a lot of hurry up and wait moments here. Plus, standing in line to get into the show is so fucking annoying. People get all pushy like its a line at the Sizzler buffet. I get all pissed off and sometimes I just feel like splittin’ some wigs while I’m there.
That’s why I like going to the off-site shows. Those are the ones with the up and coming designers and they are a lot more low key. Most of all, they are lot less annoying. The crowds don’t think they are better than everyone else and are a lot more chill.
I’m not looking forward to the NY September heat. Last year when I went at this time, it was nasty and hot. And the first day of shows, I decided to wear a suit. It was so hot that I sweat through my suit and had pit stains on my blazer. Okay, it wasn’t that bad, but I remember when I took of my coat, my shirt was completely drenched. It was so disgusting. This year, I’ll just wear a pair of daisy duke cut off shorts, a wife beater and combat boots.
