When Jeff Bridges and Kevin Bacon won their SAG Awards Did you notice anything “cool and hip” in their acceptance speeches?
They gave out “shout-outs”.
According to Wikipedia, a shout-out is…
…is a greeting or acknowledgment of a person, group, or organization of significance. It is often done as a sign of respect, synonymous with “giving props”.
The Oxford English Dictionary dates the term back to 1990, and notes that in the United States the term is particularly used among fans and performers of rap music (shout-outs are of particular significance in hip-hop culture), while in the United Kingdom it is particularly associated with the rave and club subculture.
Kevin and Jeff definitely know how to hold it down and keep it real.
