Last night I watched a screening of the rom-com of the moment, Valentine’s Day and couldn’t help but think how much this movie was like a Jenga game of celebrities. It was like a celebratory orgy of fame – but exactly how much star wattage was on this crowded Hollywood hayride?
I put my disdain for the ever-so-lonely February 14th aside and approached this film from a more scientific perspective (if you can call it that). I calculated the celeb wattage of this movie based on prestigious awards each actor won (among other things). And for kicks, I included the Kid’s Choice Awards and the MTV Movie Awards.
To make it more of a poignant sample group, I only included the actors who played characters that haddirect involvement in the intertwined romantic storylines.
I took it upon myself to create a nice little chart to help organize my IMDb research:
Here were the final tallies (some of which were not included in the above chart):
15 Golden Globes
14 People’s Choice Awards
10 SAG Awards
6 Grammys
4 Oscars
3 ALMA Awards
3 MTV Movie Awards
2 Kid’s Choice Awards
2 cast members from Grey’s Anatomy
2 cast members from That ’70s Show
2 cast members from Pretty Woman
2 cast members from Stealth
1 Queen
1 Werewolf
1 Asian
0 Razzies
I am 85 percent sure that my findings are accurate.
Nonetheless, I know exactly what you’re thinking: ONE ASIAN?! And she’s a little girl with a minor part! C’mon Hollywood, Asians celebrate Valentine’s Day too!
Besides my Asian militant tangent, I think the wattage is quite high – mostly because of Julia.
Valentine’s Day is in theaters Feb. 12
