Blog traffic bait: Lady Gaga’s ‘Alejandro’ Music Video Premiere

The song has been regurgitated on the radio over and over again and NOW we have the pleasure of the 8 minute Ace of Base-meets-”La Isla Bonita” song in video form. Come with me as we enjoy a journey of androgyny, Nazi femme bots, latex-clad nuns, naked men torsos, Aeon Flux aesthetics and chili-bowl haircuts.

Is it bad that I’m no longer surprised by Lady Gaga videos because they’re each progressively crazier than the last? lol The two things that I did appreciate:

1) The prayer bead closeups seem like an homage to the “Like a Prayer” video. Probably wasn’t intentional, but you never know with Gaga.
2) I always thought she was a decent dancer, but the scene of her dancing in her lingerie is awesome. She can do rib isolations and shimmy at the same time, very impressive!

Haha! Yes — Gaga has become predictable in an insane way. I don’t think she can do anything that will shock us. She has made “unconventional” conventional — and it honestly isn’t that groundbreaking. And I just read a tweet about how this video is a mash up of a bunch of Madonna videos and other cultural references. This vid is just a bunch of crazy that says “what odd things can we cobble together to make a cool video?” Haha!

INDEED. It was just like a big ol’ clusterfuck of….stuff. And the fact that the song has been invading airwaves for months makes it worse…
