For this week’s workout song, I decided to do something bold: implement two songs into my routine.
These days, you can’t turnaround without hearing any rap songs that haven’t been house-ified or auto-tuned, so listening to songs of the Eminem and Lil Wayne ilk bring me back to the days when I was in a street gang.
OK. I was never really in a street gang, but I do like me some good ol’ fashioned hip-hop.
Eminem’s “Syllables” is a not-as-angry-but-still-angry commentary on the diluted state of hip hop and features a hard-hitting roster of lyric spitters Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Status Quo and TWO rappers whose names are based on currency: 50 Cent and Ca$his. Although Lil Wayne’s banana boat tribute has a likeness to “A Milli,” the appearance of Cory Gunz and the the educative use of “subject” and “predicate” give it a delightful freshness to work the legs and back.
