It seems like there is a new reason to watch Saturday Night Live and he goes by the name of Jay Pharoah.
He adds a spike of energy and a third dimension to a show that has been at a stagnant state of comedic complacency. Pharoah is actually one of the few members of the cast that is memorable. His talent is reminiscent of the days of Eddie Murphy and I look forward to seeing him in skits (he needs more). His impressions are spot on — particularly his uncanny ability to invoke the swagger of Jay-Z, the aggressive charm of Denzel Washington and the overwrought Hollywoodness of Will Smith.
The geist infection is in its infancy — but it’s in the air. Expect a full-out Pharoah geist fest soon. In the mean time, check out his eerily brilliant performances:
