27 years ago we witnessed the awesomeness that is [amazon_link id="B0002JP4L4" target="_blank" ]Footloose[/amazon_link]. If you are following my irritating tweets, then you probably have noticed that I have been obsessed with the movie with a [amazon_link id="B0000025YY" target="_blank" ]bangin’ soundtrack[/amazon_link] (two songs were Oscar nominated BTW). Kevin Bacon, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lori Singer, Dianne Wiest, John Lithgow and the late Chris Penn starred in this magical story about a conservative town where dancing was forbidden — but tractor chicken fights and writing poetry on the walls of abandoned trains (thanks for that one Sunny) were perfectly fine.
Even so, people still couldn’t resist the urge to cut a rug in this small, adorable redneck town — illegally at that. Drive-in burger hops proved to be a good spot to jam out while abandoned warehouses served as the perfect stage to dance out your frustrations and angst whilst wearing a wife beater and tight jeans.
I am going to forget the fact that they are doing a redux of this iconic film (even though I will probably see it) and just celebrate its birthday — and I invite you to do the same and swim in a sea of glitter confetti while EVERYBODY CUTS FOOTLOOSE!
For our convenience there is a video that compiles the BEST dance moments of the movie set to the title track sung by the bearded/mulleted maestro of kick-snapping ’80s jams known as Kenny Loggins — who, by the way, did the equally rad song for the magical volleyball scene in Top Gun
