With the brilliant raunchy improv show, Stuffed and Unstrung fresh on our mind, it seems like The Muppets juggernaut won’t quit, until we are all convinced that we NEED to go see their movie come November. (As if I need any convincing at all.)
They are the purveyors of pop culture commentary. They are clever. They are funny. They flail their arms about when they get excited. They are icons — even more relevant than Lady Gaga (I mean, she did wear a Kermit outfit, didn’t she?)
Therein lies the significance of the greatest people ever created. They are SO significant that the most hipster bands of the 21st century created an album based on their songs including classics like “The Rainbow Connection” and “Mahna Mahna” (TAKE THAT GAGA!). From The Fray to Sondre Lerche to Rachel Yamagata, the roster on “The Green Album” (which you can stream in its entirety on NPR) looks like a PBR-infused lineup at SXSW.
But its the treadmill acrobats from OK Go that got the privilege of adding indie-cool street cred to the Muppet theme song — and there’s even a video to go along with it:
NPR? SXSW bands? An album title that playfully jabs at hip-hop masterpieces?
The Muppets are cooler than all this stuff.
