Besides reading the hilarious tweets about the MTV Video Music Awards, the most entertaining and exciting thing about the telecast was the premiere of the teaser trailer for The Hunger Games — or at least it was supposed to be.

Ever since last week, MTV has been amping up this “exclusive footage” of the upcoming YA novel-turned-superfranchise/”Battle Royale done for American audiences” movie and, as my friend Melissa says, it “was indeed a tease.” Check it out:

Yes, I was kind of let down because, as an impatient fan of the series, I wanted to see a bunch more action in the “Arena” and at least some glimpses of Peeta, Gale, Cinna, Haymitch, Effie and the whole lot — but alas — we were only treated to lush Deliverance-esque scenery, great balls of fire and Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) running really fast, jumping over a log and shooting an arrow whilst some dude (Liam Hemsworth‘s Gale) gives her positive reinforcement via voiceover.

The coolest part has to be the very end with the eerie “whistling” — which has to be the rebellious “Mockingjay Call”.

But yes, the trailer was a great big cocktease, but perhaps that’s a good thing. Small doses will make the days leading up to the premiere climactic. Very climactic.

If all of this doesn’t make sense to you, don’t worry — it will. As March 23, 2012 comes upon us, you will be getting inundated with Hunger Games news from all angles.

It will be magical.
