I was rummaging through some interview recordings that I have cued up in a folder on my desktop creatively labeled as “Interviews” one interview that I wanted to share is this interesting conversation with Asif Kapadia, the director of Senna a documentary about the generally unknown (well, at least in the U.S.) Ayrton Senna, a Brazilian Formula One racing driver who won the F1 world championship not once, not twice, but THREE times before his untimely death (that’s kind of a spoiler alert).
Senna was quite a rockstar in the F1 world — and his story in the world of Formula One is just as dramatic as his life behind the scenes. He was a character. In the interview, Kapadia goes in-depth about this project — and if you like sports documentaries that flow in the same vein as Hoop Dreams, then you should give this one a chance. (Also, an arthouse alternative to Moneyball)
That said, I’m presenting the chat I had with Asif Kapadia PODCAST-STYLE (sort of)! Play the clip below and listen to my ignorance about Formula One, Senna, and most of all, listen to Asif school me about documentaries.
