The LIVE finale of The Sing-Off is tonight and as you know, I am an avid supporter of my homestate human drum machine quintet of Pentatonix — and they have been filling up iPod shuffle for my daily workouts. (The group members actually have names! Mitch, Scott, Avi, Kirstin and Kevin.) They should feel privileged because of this.
I sure as hell hope that I am not jinxing them, but I am 83.2 percent confident that they are going to take the crown as the best a capella group in the country and then go on to do great things that a capella groups do. All of their performances are brilliant, but the following six are some of the most magical:
“E.T.” by Katy Perry: This was the group’s number at the very beginning of the season. Everyone got a chance to shine and they showed that two of them have drum machines for vocal chords
“Stuck Like Glue” by Sugarland: This song just made me smile and sway — and the reggae breakdown is grind-worthy (and possibly reefer-worthy).
“Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles: The five of them chose this song for guilty pleasure week. It was more than appropriate and they actually made the robot tolerable.
“Let’s Get it On” by Marvin Gaye: A capella boo-foo music at its best.
“Love Lockdown” by Kanye West: Mitch, Scott, Avi, Kirstin and Kevin broke this sh*t down like no other…so much that I want them to do a full version of the song. I blogged about this song once, but it deserved a second post.
“Dog Days Are Over” by Florence and the Machine: I still don’t know what this song is about, but when Pentatonix sings it, it makes everything right in the world.
