I think I am the only person in the world that didn’t fall head over heels for Like Crazy. The movie was good, but I am not popping a boner over it like some critics. I guess I pop boners for fine cinematic masterpieces like From Justin to Kelly.

All persons involved were great at what they did. I even enjoyed chatting with the director and the two stars earlier this year. It was a very fresh, young, and hip story that gave insight on the multi-dimensional make-up of a relationship — but I deem it as Blue Valentine-light. I guess I only like love stories that involve tragedy…or Ryan Gosling. Other than that, I do not have the ability to enjoy a love story because I am heartless.

I am not going to dispute the fact that director Drake Doremus snagged the Grand Jury Dramatic Prize at Sundance. I also don’t necessarily disagree with Felicity Jones‘s Sundance win for dramatic actress AND her recent win at the Gotham Awards — actually, I’m going to KIND OF disagree with them.

I guess I am dense and don’t have the chops of “real” movie writers. I don’t quite comprehend her MASSIVE appeal. Don’t get me wrong, I think Felicity Jones is likable. She’s charming as a silver screen sprite and has a certain amount of talent. Plus, she has the name of my favorite character in television history.

Since it was announced that she may be in contention for an Oscar nom (not to mention her new stint as a Dolce & Gabbana gal), my brain has been going into overdrive trying to figure out why everyone is falling in love with her. In fact, it seems like she’s getting more buzz than Elizabeth Olsen in Martha Marcy May Marlene.

Then after lots of sleepless nights, I figured it out. It’s not necessarily about Like Crazy — it’s about HER. She’s a new face in Hollywood that hasn’t been tarnished with cocaine or crotch shots. And she doesn’t have any direct connection to anyone in the industry (sorry Lizzie). Although she did a decent job as one-half of a mournful couple in young love, it’s not necessarily about how “brilliant” she was in Like Crazy. It’s about what she is capable of. She’s already had plenty of projects AFTER Like Crazy and she has added another hole to her thespian punch card by being signed to star in Ralph Fiennes‘s The Invisible Woman, an adaptation of the Claire Tomalin novel about Charles Dickens and his mistress Nelly Ternan.

Or maybe everyone loves her because of the accent. I mean, an English accent automatically makes you fancy.
