There are many, many, many movies that play at SXSW. As much as I want to and as much as I have tried, I cannot see every single movie I want to see. If I were Multiple Man, I would have no problem, but alas, I am not and it makes me sad.
Nonetheless, here is a list of movies that I wish I was able to make it to while I was at SXSW last week.
Iron Sky: Nazis from outerspace should be the plot basis of ALL movies.
Gimme the Loot: This movie won the SXSW Grand Jury Award in the Narrative Feature Competition, so it is my civil duty to watch it.
Bernie: I am more interested in what Richard Linklater does with the cast than the cast itself.
Fat Kid Rules The World: Matthew Lillard‘s directoral debut? This has got to be good.
See Girl Run: A fellow movie writer at the festival told me that this movie was really depressing and therefore not that great — but I just wanted to watch it because of Adam Scott.
Wildness: A publicist (not representing this film) told me that this documentary about the Los Angeles Latin/LGBT immigrant and queer art communities was awesomely strange. I’m sold.
Black Pond: This UK film tells the story of a family that is accused of murder when a stranger dies at their dinner table. Those Brits sure no how to party!
Francine: Melissa Leo stars in this. That’s pretty much enough for me.
Uprising: Hip Hop & The LA Riots: This documentary not only looks riveting, but the name alone will give me street cred.
Modus Anomali: This horror mind-fuck of a movie was on my “must” list, but it always screened after 11 p.m. and my brain was fried by 10 p.m. every single night I was at SXSW. Yes, I am a lame old man, but this movie deserved 100 percent of my attention and I refused to watch it whilst exhausted — but as God as my witness, I will watch this movie one day!
V/H/S: Please refer to what I wrote for Modus Anomali.
Sleepwalk With Me: Any comedy about sleepwalking is bound to have some funny moments, right?! Plus, the movie stars Lauren Ambrose. I’ve been in love with her since Can’t Hardly Wait.
Girl Walk // All Day: This was one of the many Kickstarter films at SXSW — and apparently it was the coolest.
