In last night’s episode of Mad Men, Betty Francis (formerly Draper) blessed us with her presence and — well — she’s become a little big-boned since we last saw her. Actually, the weight gain story arc was implemented to coincide with January Jones‘s real-life pregnancy while shooting the fifth season — and the story is making Betty grounded and human. I’m feeling a little sorry for the crazy bird-shooting, arousal-by-clothes dryer former Mrs. Draper.
I always wondered what direction Matthew Weiner was planning on taking Betty. I was hoping that he would make her a femi-Nazi lesbian that went around Manhattan burning her bra and muff diving.
Nonetheless, we have a much more emotional and larger Betty — and the Twitterverse was all a twitter with comments. There were many of the obvious Nutty Professor references, a TON of “Betty Draper made me go on a diet” tweets and a handful of tweets about people wanting to start a band called Fat Betty Draper. That said, finding genuine clever tweets about Betty 2.0 was kind of difficult…but I succeeded!
