Crystal Fairy has everything you want in a summer road trip movie: Michael Cera as an obnoxious American in Chile, a bunch of adorable Chilean actors, Gaby Hoffmann as a free-spirited transient who isn’t afraid of a little armpit hair, and a quest for a magical cactus with hallucinogenic powers. All under the guidance of Sebastian Silva, a director/writer that first caught the attention of the industry with his film The Maid. Now, he’s building momentum with the critical acclaim he’s getting from this indie treasure.
Take a listen to my interview with Silva and Cera while they were at the San Francisco International Film Festival. It’s very fun.
Crystal Fairy opens in theaters today.
