It’s that time of year again. Yes, I’m talking about the HOLIDAYS. And every couple of decades, a pop song comes out that truly cuts through this hustlin’ and bustlin’ season of rabid consumerism and over-eating and gives us that holiday hug we all need. We haven’t had one of those songs in a long, LONG time. That secular holiday song dry spell is over thanks to Kelly Clarkson and her little destined-to-become-a-classic diddy “Underneath the Tree”. Taking a jaunty cue from songs like “Christmas (Baby, Come Home)” by Darlene Love and “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey, the O.G. American Idol captures that classic sleigh-bell infused poppiness that brings pure joy to the season. Plus, there’s a saxophone solo which makes it all the better.
