In honor of the release of the maybe-it-is-maybe-it-isn’t racist/homophobic movie Get Hard (I haven’t seen it yet, so I will let you know if it is either), I decided to carefully curate a collection of movie & TV clips from Will Ferrell.
We’ll start with the obvious: The classic “More Cowbell” sketch from Saturday Night Live. Out of all of his SNL sketches, I prefer Ferrell’s one-off bits rather than his recurring characters.
The Other Guys: The cop comedy he did with Mark Wahlberg remains underrated and underwatched. He did some fine work in this one, but this particular scene had me rollin’ because seeing a straight-laced guy lose his shit is always fun…and Ferrell does it with such beauty and grace.
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy: There is funny in every nook in cranny of this movie, but the impromptu “Afternoon Delight” jam session with Ron and the gang is a magical moment in cinema.
Will as Little Debbie: This just happened last week and it has given me the neverending chuckles.
“Between Two Ferns”: It’s only appropriate that he be on the best online talk show on an online comedy website he co-created. Also, primate frog fellatio.
“Celebrity Jeopardy” on SNL: Out of all his recurring sketches, this is my favorite (yes, even more than the Spartan Cheerleaders). As Alex Trebek, he is actually one of the more toned down characters — the straight man amongst crazies. And he still is funny by being “normal.”
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (again) : This battle of insults between Ferrell and Christina Applegate is stuff dreams are made of.
Elf: Already a holiday classic, it is filled with fun quotes and scenes that can bring joy to anyone’s life. But it’s the scene when Buddy the Elf finds out that Santa is coming, that captures the essence of the movie.
The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards: He and Kristen Wiig did a bit when they were presenting the award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical. Everyone enjoyed it…except Tommy Lee Jones.
“Love-ahs in a Hot Tub” on SNL: Words cannot express how much I love everything that happens in this video.
