If you’re like me, then you are probably kicking yourself for missing over half of the 10th Annual SF Sketchfest (What?! A huge chunk of the Community cast was here?!) If you’re a fan of It’s Always Sunny Philadelphia, As Good As it Gets, Taxi, Terms of Endearment, or War of the Roses then you probably want to pay attention to a late addition to Sketchfest coming up on Tuesday, Feb. 1. Danny DeVito will be chatting it up with James L. Brooks, writer/director and recipient of the SF Sketchfest Comedy Award on the aforementioned date. Between the two of them there’s a considerable amount of accolades that include Emmys and Academy Awards — which more than make up for things like How Do You Know and Batman Returns. As an added bonus, there will be a screening of Brooks’ classic, Broadcast News at the event. Score! Tickets are $25 and are available here.
I did it. I popped my half-marathon cherry. On Sunday, I, along with my running buddies, braved the rain and participated in the US Half in San Francisco. I ended up running the marathon in 2 hours and 1 minute, with a pace of 9:16. I was the 840th person to cross the finish line out of 2,976 runners. I actually wanted to complete the run in under 2 hours — and I didn’t. I feel like a failure. A TOTAL FAILURE. Just kidding. Me (with my fancy headband ear warmer) and my friends Steven and Larry at the start line before our rainy run I am just happy that I managed to run the entire race non-stop and, even in the rain, the run was quite enjoyable — especially running across the Golden Gate Bridge. It was magical. I even needed to pee whilst running. I was debating on whether or not to stop, but I just kept going and let the water flow. I mean, it was raining, so the urine was going to wash out of my shorts anyway. I am totally joking. I did NOT pee in my shorts while running. I only let a little [...]

I am just happy that I managed to run the entire race non-stop and, even in the rain, the run was quite enjoyable — especially running across the Golden Gate Bridge. It was magical.

I even needed to pee whilst running. I was debating on whether or not to stop, but I just kept going and let the water flow. I mean, it was raining, so the urine was going to wash out of my shorts anyway.

I am totally joking. I did NOT pee in my shorts while running. I only let a little bit out.

Anyway, look at the fancy medal my registration fee bought me:

As a result from running through lots of muddy terrain and splashing through puddles, I am retiring my Nikes:

…or perhaps I should get them bronzed.

I have officially been bitten by the marathon bug. In April 2011, I will run the “Other Half” of this US Half and I am sure I will run like the wind in many other in between. After that — who knows? Perhaps the NY Marathon? Perhaps the Olympics? For now, I will just take it easy. My thighs are still sore. For the time being, I I will just work out with my Shake Weight.

While I was walking around in the heat of the city, I was humming “Heatwave” quite loudly. In turn, it made me think about the time when Kimberley Locke performed it on the second season of American Idol and Simon said it reminded him a Burger King commercial.

Too bad that part isn’t in this video:

Enter ‘Role Models’ by John Waters, a book where he talks about all of his role models and how they had an impact on his life. From Leslie Van Houten (of unfortunate Manson Family infamy) to Rei Kawakubo (the great mind behind Comme des Garçons) to a brash stripper lesbian named Zorro, Waters’s new book is the center of my life right now. I cannot stop talking about it. It’s like I am selling it on a late night infomercial — but I don’t have to. The book sells itself! There was one bit of information in the book that surprised me (I’m still reading it). I found out that Mr. Waters has a place in San Francisco. On Nob Hill. AND he likes to take Muni. I am probably one the last people in the city to know about this (and I call myself a journalist! Scoff!). This would totally explain an incident that happened to me a couple of months ago.

I was walking near Geary and Grant Street and saw a skinny guy with slicked back hair and a pencil-thin mustache in a plaid suit. I said to myself, “Wow. That looks like John Waters.”

It probably was. And I totally did not run after him to beg him for a picture. Perhaps I should just wait on that corner on a daily basis in hopes that we can “casually” cross paths.

Does that make me a stalker?

For some reason, my feet seem really small and my head seems huge. Gigantic. Enormous. It’s like I am a bobble head. But yes, I was featured in the mag — and big, BIG thanks to Jaclyn Binder for giving me props. I figured I should mention it since I allow myself a quarterly moment of vanity.
When I heard Bi-Rite Creamery (notorious for their hellaciously long lines) expanded their space and was starting to serve salted caramel soft serve, I knew I had to go. Obesity in a bowl During the final hours of my birthday on Sunday, I ate some noodles at Tanpopo in Japantown (for long life, of course) and then at 9:30 p.m. my friends and I RUSHED over to the Mission so that we can beat Bi-Rite’s closing time of 10 p.m. Thank God we made it there on time. I immediately got a bowl of the creaminess that is their salted caramel soft serve. As soon as I started shoveling it into my mouth, I can hear my body expanding. It was so buttery, smooth and it was as though my taste buds were climaxing. I think I ate the whole bowl in 5 minutes. Afterwards, the heavenly treat left a glossy sheen on my lips.
During the final hours of my birthday on Sunday, I ate some noodles at Tanpopo in Japantown (for long life, of course) and then at 9:30 p.m. my friends and I RUSHED over to the Mission so that we can beat Bi-Rite’s closing time of 10 p.m.

Thank God we made it there on time.

Afterwards, the heavenly treat left a glossy sheen on my lips. It was like I used a stick of butter as Chapstick. I licked my lips and could literally taste the gorgeous obesity. It was like I was eating The Stuff (see the video below for reference).

To top it off, I bought a salted caramel cupcake to go. As soon as I got home, I bit into it and a delightful caramel artery-clogging concoction oozed out and I started inhaling it like it was cocaine.

I never felt so ashamed and satisfied.

Happy Birthday to me.
