Jay-Z and Kanye West are the George Clooney and Brad Pitt of the hip-hop world. They have balance of swagger, talent, and cockiness that we either hate or love. They also tend to have a way of showing the world that they are better than us without shoving it in our face…well, at least Hova has humility.

So when the two teamed up to create the EPIC rap album, “Watch the Throne” the world spewed with excitement…and the album spewed a bunch of stuff that we gobbled up: “Ni***s in Paris” convulsed its way to the NYC subway and had people wearing out the phrase “that shit cray”. It also taught us that “H.A.M.” is not just something that can be honeybaked. Above all, it was the inventive “Otis” that caught my ear. Perhaps I loved the song because of the music video. For one, the duo dismantles a Maybach just to show us how rich they are. Secondly, Aziz Ansari makes a little cameo:

I wonder if Kanye and Hova actually own thrones.

In their new Spike Jonze-directed video for “Otis”, Jay-Z and Kanye West further prove that they are way cooler than you by deconstructing an expensive car and getting a bunch of girls in booty shorts to go joyriding in an abandoned warehouse district. All the while, they light fireworks and pose with swagger in front of an American flag.

It’s only Wednesday and my Twitter account is on FIRE! I have been coming up with the most clever tweets since Sunday. From the release of Watch the Throne to the latest bat-shit crazy episode of True Blood, I think I am pretty darn funny — and I may be the only one who thinks that.

Listening to this song while taking my morning run makes me feel like a robot gliding on a rainbow of hip-hop awesomeness. However, when you say the word “HAM” you can’t help but think of a canned ham rather than someone who is as “hard as a motherfucker” — and even with that phrase, you can’t help but think of the double entendre. Or is that just me?

Only Jay-Z can make a conceptual hip-hop video really cool.

For extra credit, how many fashion references does Hova make in this song?

I must admit, there was a moment where I was expecting Lil’ Mama to jump up on the stage.

Nonetheless – why does Jay-Z make everything work? He could probably jump up on stage during a production of Phantom of the Opera and spit some lyrics and rock the hell out of it.

With that out of the way, I have been dissecting his latest tune, “Run This Town” featuring Rihanna and Kanye “I keep on apologizing for stupid things I do” West. All I have to say is that any rapper that can smoothly fit in the words Maison Martin Margiela into his lyrical arsenal is a genius (fast forward to timestamp 2:37ish):

…and P.S. Jay-Z has been seen on more than one occasion wearing Lanvin sneakers. Hova knows that fashion goes beyond Sean John and Phat Farm.
