I am continuing my obsession with DJ Earworm by adding some more (if not all) of his mashups on to my iPod shuffle for my daily workout repertoire. Last week it was his uber-mix of “boomin’” 2011 pop hits. This week it is the ’90s club savvy mashup of the good ol’ pop rockin’ “Since U Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson married with the Rex the Dogg Dubb Mixx of Depeche Mode‘s “Photographic”.

In Kelly Clarkson‘s new music video for the title track of her newest album, Stronger, she sticks to her guns with throbbing guitar riffs, contained performances with her nameless rock band, windblown close-ups of her face hidden by strands of hair, and tight shots of her trademark Since-You-Been-Gone pop rock wails. For an extra special treat, we see her in what seems to be some sort of mobile command center playing with a bunch of buttons and stuff. For an extra, EXTRA special treat, the video is intercut with various flashmobs from around the globe performing a special choreographed dance she posted on her website a while back for her fans to learn — specifically for this video. All of it culminates into a finale with more professional flash mobbers doing the dance in what seems to be an area of the Riverwalk in San Antonio.

I think I would have been PERFECTLY fine with seeing Kelly belt out this tune without the flashmob business…and I am just saying that because my segment didn’t get picked.

Sunday night on the American Music Awards, Kelly Clarkson DID NOT lip sync, but actually sang her latest pop-gruntled anthem “Mr. Know it All” — with a big band twist!

The social mediasphere blew up with OMGs and praise (with the occasional, pompous “I DID NOT LIKE THE ARRANGEMENT” comments — and as an avid Kelly fan, I was in full support of this new version. Check out the performance:

The curvy dress has been drawing comparisons to Jessica Rabbit, but a comment that popped up on my Facebook page was, “THE HIPS DON’T LIE.”

They certainly don’t.

Nonetheless, this isn’t K.C.’s first foray into the big band world. Remember when she performed “Stuff Like That There” on American Idol? Here’s a reminder:

What exactly is “stuff like that there”? Is it something sexual?

It is no question that I have an obsession with Kelly Clarkson — and now that her new album is out and I FINALLY purchased it in CD form (yes, I am one of the 20 people in the world that still purchases CDs) I cannot stop listening to it.

All of Kelly’s songs do have a similar sound, but they still have a different vibe. It’s like getting a variety pack of bittersweet pop rocks. I, of course, keep a mellow high with her first single, “Mr. Know it All” but other faves include the title track, ’80s-esque mid-tempo “You Love Me”, and “I Forgive You” — a flipside to her broken relationship tracks.

But one of the best is “Einstein” — mainly because of the lyrics: “Dumb plus dumb equals you.”

Nonetheless, enjoy the video for “Mr. Know it All” — which you will probably hear in heavy rotation for the rest of the year:

In an effort to tie the loose end on what Justin Timberlake referred to as their “trilogy” of the History of Rap, J.T. and hand-hugging BFF Jimmy Fallon gave one helluva medley of hip hop songs (OH SNAP! De La Soul‘s “Me Myself and I”!) on Friday’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon:

Timberlake was on his show to promote his latest film, In Time but after they performed their little show, the show was the least of their priority. The two just absurdly joked about stuff and J.T.’s charisma infected the audience like an S.T.D. — and it was quite funny and despite the lackluster-ness of his movie, he probably sold it:

After that, Tower Heist‘s Michael Pena came out with his funny swagger…

…AND THEN Kelly Clarkson performed!

It was a quite magical night in Fallon land!

Recently, during a night of karaoke, I started to sing a rousing rendition of Kelly Clarkson‘s “I Do Not Hook Up”. I thought I would get a standing ovation, but NO ONE in the room knew what I was singing. They just recognized the sugary aggressive pop-rock stylings of K.C.

Apparently, they weren’t diehard K.C. like me. That’s their fault.

Nonetheless, this weekend whilst on my morning run, I realized that Miss Independent had a owned a vast amount of real estate on iPod shuffle and “I Do Not Hook Up” makes me run like the wind.

Every time I hear the song, I imagine myself performing the song LIVE on stage with the same amount of wind machine rockstar-ness:

Last week I asked if I should make “Mr. Know it All” a Workout Song of the Week. Based on this post, I answered my own question.

It’s no secret that I am wildly anticipating Kelly Clarkson‘s album, “Stronger”. That said, I will spare no expense in stuffing her latest single down your throat — and you shouldn’t mind because it is, as per usual, amazing.

And just to let you know, “King of Pain” is still in heavy rotation.

I am pretty much one of those Kelly Clarkson fans that will like anything she does. I was one of the few that actually enjoyed the poppy darkness of “My December” and I can scream the fuck out of “Since U Been Gone” and “Miss Independent” at karaoke. Yesterday, I heard she was going to premiere her new single LIVE, so without missing a beat I immediately went to kellyclarkson.com and was welcomed by a livestream video of Miss “Cool Beans” Clarkson answering questions from a chatroom full of fans who had no command of the English language.

The O.G. American Idol talked about how dorky and nervous she was and fielded a couple of questions about her upcoming album, “Stronger”. Then, about 10 minutes before she was going to premiere her single, “Mr. Know it All”, the worst thing that could happen happened — the Internet on her end cut out and we were all left hanging.

Luckily, they managed to post the song without the anticipated LIVE introduction from Kelly:

Kelly was nice enough to post an apology video for the technically difficulties. She’s such a great gal isn’t she?

Any pop rock song by the O.G. American Idol, Kelly Clarkson gets my adrenaline going, but this week I am pulling out her first single, “Miss Independent” out of the archives to help me get through my morning workouts — and here’s a fun fact about KC’s “you-go-girl!” anthem: it was co-written by Christina Aguilera and was supposed to be on her “Stripped” album…then again, this may be old news to you — but it is a fact that is fun!

As much as each new season pains me, I still have high hopes for the show. How could I ignore the reality show competition that has given us star-making performances? Season 4 treated us to a big-haired Carrie Underwood belting out “Alone” and season 8 gave us Adam Lambert’s haunting rendition of “Mad World”. And let’s not forget the tear-jerking version of “Summertime” provided by Fantasia.

Hell, I loved Idol so much that I was one of the 20 people who went to the theater to watch From Justin to Kelly.

But my ALL time favorite performance is by the OG Idol, Kelly Clarkson during season 1′s “Big Band Night.” Her seamless performance of “Stuff Like that There” makes me smile and is reason enough to keep on watching Idol for years to come no matter what. Because if you blink, you might miss out on something really good.
