A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas opens in theaters today.

The best way to celebrate the 4th of July (a.k.a. the independence of our fine nation) is with Madonna — and it is more than appropriate to celebrate with her song, “American Life” from the 2003 album with the same name.

Yeah, the song is kind of preachy and the Debbie Harry-esque rap interlude is a bit tacky — but you can’t help but listen to the lyrics and say, “Madge makes some valid points.” More than that, the tune is pretty catchy.

Then there is the issue of the first “controversial” version of the video which featured a circus-like military fashion show, Muslim undertones, less-than-attractive background dancers, and a kooky Bush at the end:

The video, like many before, were deemed too inappropriate. Yet, by today’s standards, the video would be quite tame.

Nonetheless, this is the version that was more appropriate:

Flag. Waving in the air. Riveting.

Every time I listen to this song I become unbelievably patriotic. And by patriotic, I mean imagining myself walking down a hallway in full camo gear with an army of slightly overweight (some underweight), sweaty, angry background dancers who end up crashing a fashion show whilst rapping about personal trainers, lattes, metaphysics and a nanny & a chef. I’m totally serious. There’s this sterile, stone-walled, concrete hallway in my apartment building and every time I walk through it I march through it like a fearless Madonna wearing a beret. If you would like to join me on one of these marches, please let me know.

The album, based on this single, was critically panned. Nonetheless, I felt obligated to like it, so I actually listened to the WHOLE thing. My final analysis: it’s a pretty darn good album. If you get passed her preachy controversial tirades, and listen to her more musically thoughtful songs that would never make it as radio singles like “Nothing Fails,” “Intervention,” “X-Static Process,” and “Easy Ride” you will see that it’s not all about Militant Madge.

Oh yeah — Happy 4th of July!

I was so busy watching Mary Murphy have a mouthgasm on So You Think You Can Dance that I forgot to watch The Voice finale — but perhaps that’s a good thing. Watching finale episodes of any reality competition on fast-forward is much more efficient.

Here is a bullet-pointed re-cap which allowed me to watch the one hour finale in under half an hour (spoilers ahead):

- Skipped the front loaded, mind-numbing, “time-filling” introduction.

- Ignored the Jay Leno bit because I don’t like him.

- Love Vicci, but didn’t feel like watching her performance with that dude from Train.

- Oh Lord. They really need to get rid of that useless “social media” room.

- Almost cried at the Javier/Stevie Nicks “Landslide” duet.

- Adam Levine almost cried too. Funny — he even looks like a white version of me when he almost cries.

- X-tina touched her boobs.

- X-tina’s velvet hat in her behind-the-scenes interview.

- Beverly is pretty much a badass. Last night’s “Beautiful” duet with X-tina was quite — well — beautiful. As for the One Republic duet tonight — ummmm — I would’ve liked to see her perform with Stevie Nicks as well. (deserving of fast forward)

- I love Dia — but can the coaches stop calling her voice, “unique”? Yes. We know it’s “unique,” but perhaps a thesaurus is in order.

- Dia and Miranda Lambert: I can hold off on the FF button for this one.

- The big moment is upon us — and Cee-lo’s bedazzled tracksuit is out of control.

- Beverly has a cane.

- Dia and Javier are chosen as the top two.

- I wonder if Carson Daly has nightmares about TRL while hosting.

- Javier Colon wins. Well-deserved.

- I wonder if Adam Levine gets a fat bonus for his pupil winning The Voice.

- I am going to rewind and watch that “Landslide” performance again:

Danity Kane is a mainstay on my iPod shuffle for my workouts (who doesn’t have them on their iPods?) This week, their not-so-much-of-a-hit-song “Bad Girl” gets my adrenaline going for a nice run in the morning!

I dare you NOT to get pumped while listening to this pop R&B fodder of two-dimensional lyrics!

The “Edge of Seventeen”-sampled song about jiggly bits and droppin’ it like it’s hot has uncanny similarities to “Eye of the Tiger;” therefore giving me the musical fuel to run like the wind.

So everyone practically got an orgasmic aneurysm when they announced Gwyneth Paltrow‘s “singing debut” on the CMA Awards — which just so happens to be in conjunction with her next big film Country Strong.

Everyone is basically saying, “She done good!” I am just posting this because I know everyone is dying to see the video — God knows people didn’t really sit through the entire duration of the CMA Awards. Also, I think this would make for some gratuitous blogger bait. I really need to get my metrics up.

OK. It’s not me. I figured that since we were both Asian, you wouldn’t notice. (side note: I think he was in the production of Rent I saw when I was in New York a couple of years back.)

But there is one thing you should take notice of in the clip. Keep your eye on this guy:

Although I thoroughly enjoyed the homegirl quitting her job by means of humiliating messages on a dry erase board (which I later learned was a hoax), I can’t get enough of Jason Schwartzman and Michael Cera (starring in the upcoming Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) doing the weather report on a news station in Atlanta:

I don’t know if the above is really considered “viral” — but it makes me chuckle…and it makes me want to report the weather at my local Fox affiliate.

I want to draw your attention to the remix of Ludacris‘s remix of “My Chick Bad” — which is currently my jam right now (because I am, indeed, a bad chick). I am diggin’ the original version with Nicki Minaj, but this “Pussy Rules the World Version” on his “Battle of the Sexes” album features Diamond, Trina and Eve. It reminds me of those enjoyably crowded tracks from back in the day. It also has me doing body rolls while I brush my teeth in the morning.
